As a kid I grew up with Newfoundlands, labs, an Australia Cattle Dog, and a few mutts. When I moved to Oklahoma I brought home a dog from the ASPCA and it wasn’t a good fit. I am not sure what his background was, but I was not able to handle him and give him the life he needed. One of my cherished friends raised Golden’s, continuing on in the foot steps of her mom. I asked her for recommendations on how to find the right dog for me. She ended up sharing with me about a dog that she though would be a perfect fit for what I was looking for/needing. Gina was a retired mama dog. Little did I know that my life was about to be forever changed but those precious four golden paws.
She had the sweetest eyes and most gentle and quiet spirit. She was a dog that the only thing she would hurt was a pesky fly. She was God’s Gift an Irreplaceable Needed Angel in my life. On days where it was hard for me to get out of bed she would patiently lay by me. When I wanted to shut myself in she brought me her leash for her daily walk. She was never pushy but gently guided me forward. Somehow she knew what I needed and was always happy to be there for me. She was my faithful buddy that walked me through the loss of my dad and processing the loss of my mom and two children in heaven. She walked through countless hurts and challenges with me and gave me unconditional love and support.
With Gina I learned something that will forever stick with me, sometimes before we can reach for a human hand we need the love and healing that four paws and a wagging tail can offer.
I am forever grateful to Kerri at Farmland Kennels and her mom Sheryl at Buckeye Kennels in Ohio and what they have taught me about life through the care they put into breeding quality dogs.
There is so much more that goes into breeding than two dogs being together and 63 days later having puppies. It is finding the right temperaments, making sure genetics are healthy, making sure the first 8 weeks of a puppies life is stable, enriching, safe, and setting a strong foundation that their future family can build on.
Without Sheryl, Keri, and Gina I would have never wanted thought to breed dogs. Due to the impact they have made in my life I want to because I want others to have some of the same opportunities I have had.
